Nueve meses después de salir de Vigo el mensaje en la botella a Jonah Lomu ha recorrido el mundo, en concreto más de 41.000 kilómetros desde su partida el pasado 26 de marzo (Vigo-Dublín, Dublín-Wellington (Nueva Zelanda), Wellington-Dublín y Dublín-Francia). Después de su viaje a Nueva Zelanda ha retornado a Europa y ahora se encuentra en Francia, donde se espera que alcance su objetivo, la entrega de la botella a Lomu, en cuestión de semanas.
Jean Luc Barthés, representante de la IRB (International Rugby Board) para el continente africano y ex jugador del Castres Olympic, es el nuevo portador de la botella que contiene el Mensaje a Lomu de los niños del Vigo Rugby Club.
Paddy O´Brien, árbitro internacional neozelandés y actual Director del Consejo de Árbitros de la IRB, fue el anterior portador de la botella. Paddy O’Brien había recibido la botella en Dublín de manos de Bruce Cook, Director de Desarrollo de la IRB, materializando así el tercer grado en esta cadena que tiene como receptor final a la estrella neozelandesa Jonah Lomu.
Un viaje de ida y vuelta
Cuando Paddy O´Brien se llevó la botella a Nueva Zelanda para entregársela a su destinatario final, se cruzó con Jonah Lomu, que viajaba a Europa para fichar por el Vitrolles de Marsella.
Coincidiendo con la estancia de la botella en Nueva Zelanda las niñas del Instituto de la ciudad de Invercargill, que conocieron la iniciativa a través del blog (mensajealomu.blogspot.com) crearon un grupo en su red social para apoyar a los chicos de Vigo en su iniciativa. Esta experiencia ha servido para que más de medio centenar de chicos y chicas situados en las antípodas se hayan conocido gracias a la botella de Lomu.
Una compleja red de contactos y viajes
De vuelta a Europa, la botella se topó con un viejo conocido. Bruce Cook volvió a recibir la botella de manos de Paddy en un apasionante viaje de ida y vuelta. En Cook confluyen así dos grados de esta viaje (fue el segundo receptor del mensaje y ahora se ha convertido en el cuarto). Una circunstancia que él explica de la siguiente manera: “para algunos miembros destacados de la IRB esta iniciativa es conmovedora y nos ha motivado a implicarnos en la causa porque recoge los valores más profundos de nuestro deporte”.
Mensaje en la botella
La iniciativa “Mensaje en la botella a Jonah Lomu” parte de las categorías infantiles y cadetes del Vigo Rugby Club. Los chicos cuentan por carta al ex jugador de los “All Blacks” las dificultades económicas con las que se encuentran para poder practicar este deporte. En la misiva no le piden nada a Jonah Lomu, excepto el acuse de recibo.
El periplo de la botella puede seguirse a través del blog creado para contar la historia del mensaje a Lomu: mensajealomu.blogspot.com. A día de hoy, se han recibido 14.000 visitas y han llegado comentarios y entradas desde diversas partes del mundo. Francia, Irlanda, Gran Bretaña, Nueva Zelanda, Argentina, Uruguay, Italia, Rumania o Estados Unidos son algunos de los países que se han interesado por la iniciativa y lo han visitado
The Message in a bottle to Loum comes back from New Zealand
Nine months after its departure from Vigo, the bottle to Jonah Lomu has traveled around the world. In fact, more 41,000 kms from its departure last 26th March (Vigo-Dublin, Dublin-Wellington (New Zealand), Wellington-Dublin and Dublin-France). After its voyage to New Zealand, it has come back to Europe and now it is in France, where it is expected it will reach its objective in some weeks: the delivering of the bottle to Lomu.
Jean Luc Barthés, IRB representative (International Rugby Board) for the African continent and ex Castres Olympic player, is the new carrier of the bottle which contains the Message to Lomu from the children of the Vigo Rugby Club.
Paddy O´Brien, New Zelander international referee and current IRB referee manager, was the former carrier of the bottle. Paddy O’Brien had received the bottle in Dublin from Bruce Cook, IRB Development Manager, making possible the third degree of this chain whose final receptor is the New Zealander star Jonah Lomu.
A return journey When Paddy O´Brien took the bottle to New Zealand in order to delivering it to its final addresee, he meets in the way with Jonah Lomu, that travelled to Europe to signing for the Marseille Vitroles.
Coinciding with the stay of the bottle in New Zealand, the girls of the High Scholl of the city of Invercargill, that knew about the initiative through the blog (mensajealomu.blogspot.com) created a group in their social net in order to support the children of Vigo in their initiative. This experience has made possible that around fifty children located in the antipodes have met each other thanks to the bottle to Lomu.
A complex net of contacts and journeys Back to Europe, the bottle met an old acquaintance. Bruce Cook received again the bottle from Paddy in an exciting return journey. In Cook converges two degrees of this journey (he was the second recipient of the message and now he has become in the fourth degree). He explains this circumstance in the following way: “for some prominent members of the IRB this initiative is moving and it has motivated us to get involved in this cause because it summarizes the more deep values of our sport”.
Message in a bottle The initiative “Message in a bottle to Jonah Lomu” comes from the infantile and cadet categories of the Vigo Rugby Club. The children tell to the ex All Blacks player in a letter the economic difficulties they are going through in order to play this sport. In the letter they do not ask anything from Jonah Lomu, but acknowledgement of receipt.
The journey of the bottle can be followed through the blog created to tell the story of the Message to Lomu: mensajealomu.blogspot.com. To this day, 14,000 visits have been received and have come comments and entries from several parts of the world. France, Ireland, New Zealand, Argentina, Uruguay, Italy, Romania and the USA are some of the countries that have become interested by the initiative and have visited the blog.

Primero fue el mensaje en la botella a Lomu y ahora nos encontramos con que están promoviendo una campaña para hermanar Vigo con sus antípodas en Nueva Zelanda. Resulta que un artista vigués ha descubierto que las antípodas de Vigo no están en el mar sino en una pequeña población de Nueva Zelanda llamada Barrytown. Parece que el destino quiere que Vigo y Nueva Zelanda estén unida sí o sí... Nosotros seguimos pendientes del recorrido de la botella y deseando que pronto llegue a su destino.
Vigo and New Zealand, determined to become twin cities
First it was the message in a bottle to Lomu and now we find that it's been promoted a campaing to twin Vigo with its antipodes in New Zealand. An artist from Vigo has discovered that the antipodes of Vigo are not located int eh sea, but in a little town of New Zealand called Barrytown. It seems that destiny wants that Vigo and New Zealand are united ... We still pay attention to the route of the bottle and we hope it reach its destination soon.

Hola compañeros, nos vamos enterando con cuentagotas de las aventuras de nuestra ya casi vieja amiga botella. En principio parece ser que el partido que enfrentará al equipo de Marsella será contra el Cartes Olympic...de la ciudad de Cartes.
La verdad es que parece un sitio apasionante, es parte del camino de Santiago francés, por lo que alguno de la ciudad se dejará caer por Galicia este año. Además tiene historia llena también de meigas y rincones escondidos entre grandes bloques de granito, lo que le da un toque muy gallego. Aquí hubo cátaros y demás herejes, tienen el segundo mayor museo de arte español en Francia, el Museo Goya...en fin, que vamos a estar como en casa...
Ánimo que cada vez va quedando menos.
Os lo queríamos contar en otro post, pero para hacer boca señalar que el Castres Olympic está de primero en el Top 14 francés, puede ser un partidazo...

Hi fellows, we know little by little of the adventures of our almost old friend bottle. In principle, it seems that the match in which the bottle will find its destination will be the match that will meet the Marseille team and the Cartes Olympic... from the city of Cartes.

Curiosamente, quien fuera el primer eslabón de la cadena se convierte en el contacto con la última persona que será la responsable de entregar nuestra viajera botella a Lomu.
Nuestro último hombre se llama Jean Luc Barthes, es el representante del IRB para el continente africano y exjugador del Castres Olympic. Este equipo jugará contra el Mareselle RC el 11 de enero, partido en el que el IRB en manos de Jean Luc, piensa entregar la botella a nuestro gran hombre.
Según nos confirma Joe, todo está en marcha para que Lomu no se nos escape ese día y podamos, por fin, terminar esta loca aventura en la que nos embarcamos hace ocho meses.
Estamos a la espera de recibir la foto de Jean Luc con la botella, en cuanto la tengamos os contaremos más cosas sobre esta última etapa del "Mensaje en la botella a Jonah Lomu".
Joe Scully confirms us the 11th January as the date of delivery Curiously, the man who was the first step of the chain became the link with the last step encharged of delivering our traveller bottle. Our last person is called Jean Luc Barthes, representative of the IRB in the African continent and ex-Castres Olimpic player. This team will play against the Marseille RC the 11th January. In this match, the IRB through the hands of Jean Luc, is going to deliver the bottle to our Great Man. As Joe has confirmed us, everything is arranged for not lossing the opportunity and we could that day, at last, to end this crazy adventure in which we are involved since 8 months ago. We are waiting for receiving the picture of Jean Luc with the bottle. When we have it, we will tell you more thing about this last stage of the 'Message in a bottle to Jonah Lomu'.
Nos ha llegado una última hora en la que nos informan de que Bruce Cook visitará pronto Vigo para conocer a los "chicos de la botella" y compartir con ellos un día de entrenamiento. Pronto conoceremos la fecha... Os recordamos que Cook fue el segundo portador de la botella a Lomu y actualmente es miembro de la International Rugby Board (IRB) y en el pasado fue entrenador de un equipo australiano de rugby: Waratahs.
Bruce Cook will vistit the children of the Vigo Rugby Club very soon We have received a lastest piece of information in which we have been informed that Bruce Cook will visit Vigo very soon to meet 'the kids of the bottle' and share with them a day of entertainment. We will know the date very soon... We remind you that Cook was the second carrier of the bottle to Lomu and currently is member of the International Rugby Board (IRB) and in the past was trainer of a rugby Australian team: Waraths.
